Heather S.: Flexible Beginnings Pave Way for Future Leader

Heather S. is an Area Coach (AC) who joined us back when Summerwood acquired the franchisee she worked for. That was almost a decade ago!

“Summerwood did a really great job onboarding us, welcoming us into the family,” Heather says in reflection. “When I would go to meetings there would be certain people that would mentor us and make us feel included, and that was really nice.”

Like many of our team members, Heather got her first Taco Bell job as a teenager and was grateful to be granted flexibility. For her, this was critical because of the unique responsibility she had in helping to care for her baby niece.

“My niece was born when I was 16, and me and my mom took care of her,” she shares. “Taco Bell … work[ed] between our schedules, so we could fit everything in.”

Heather signed up for a cooperative work experience in high school so she could spend half a day at school and the other half at her Taco Bell.

Growing Up at Taco Bell

Despite the extra responsibilities of caring for a child, Heather steadily worked her way up the career ladder.

“There’s always room to grow,” she says. 

Today, as an AC overseeing seven Taco Bells, Heather says that she finds reward in seeing what others can accomplish when they’ve been given the tools to move forward. Working for a Summerwood Taco Bell allowed her, for example, to buy a house!
