Celebrating 30 years of Burger King!
Today we celebrate Dawn Kidd, who has worked at Burger King for the past 30 years. Burger King was her first and only job. Dawn greets our Guests and keeps the Dining Room and Restrooms sparkling clean. Dawn doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon, as she's in her early 50's and still loves working with all her coworkers. Dawn has seen many physical changes to the restaurant over the decades, and she always did her part to keep the Gibbstown BK looking its best. She once used to keep the outside Playland cleaned and greeted young children before it turned into an outside picnic seating area. We could never express enough how much we appreciate Dawn, and we look forward to working with her for many more years at Burger King!
Millsboro is now open!
Summerwood is moving right along with our new store construction - our new Taco Bell opened in Millsboro, Delaware on Monday, August 19! Many thanks to our new Restaurant General Manager Gautamkumar Brahmbhatt and to Area Coach Richard Walsh for all of your help and leadership in getting this store open – we are off to a great start! We’d also like to thank our Assistant General Manager Brittany Moore, Dan Bonagura, and everyone in Areas 1 and 2 for all of their support from Day 1 forward. Way to pull together as a team – you truly help make Summerwood a great place to be.
Taco Bell is Now Open in Elverson!
We were excited to open a new Taco Bell in Elverson, Pennsylvania at noon on July 27! This store has a hitching post since it's located in horse and buggy country, so feel free to bring your horse! Of course, we couldn't do it without the support of our team. Special thanks to Opening Coordinator Dan Bonagura, and Restaurant General Manager Jeff McFarland for their hiring and training efforts. We'd also like to thank Area 10 for their support during the first two weeks of opening. We couldn't do it without you!
Another Great Summerwood Picnic
Though the weather looked like rain, we had another great Summerwood Company Picnic at Mermaid Lake this year! The company picnic is a time for our company to come together, eat some delicious food, play some fun games, and enjoy spending time together. This year’s picnic was one for the books, and everyone had a wonderful time. Special thanks to Kathy Mullane, Terry Brown-Walker, Denise Branca, Peggy Kontra, and everyone who helped make this possible for us. We’re already looking forward to next year – hopefully with better weather!
Helping out Hunting Park Christian Academy!
When the principal of Hunting Park Christian Academy reached out to the Ewing KFC for a discount on some food for an eighth grade luncheon, Area Coach Jeffrey Hildebrand decided to go a little further, donating chicken, sides, and cake to the school. Charise Scott from the Kensington KFC/Taco Bell joined me to help out, and together we helped decorate, prepare and serve the food to the children. This cause was especially meaningful to us, because most of the funding to the school comes from money that the students raise themselves. I’d like to thank Carl, Jeffrey, Charise, and everyone at Summerwood for helping make it possible for us to help out this school. This was our first community event of the year, and we look forward to many more!
Today, we came together to celebrate Rosie's 80th birthday! Rosie has worked with Taco Bell for 25 years, and it's hard to find anyone more loved by our guests, who she treats like family. If you stop in, you can bet there is always someone there to see Rosie. Rosie is truly dedicated to Summerwood, and she says that, "...I have never had a bad manager--I am good to them and they are good to me." She walks to work in the snow and rarely misses work. When asked why she likes working at Summerwood, Rosie says, "Everyone at Summerwood has been loyal, compassionate and caring towards me. It's safe to say that everyone loves Rosie, and we hope she'll be with Summerwood for many more years!
Community Day at the Pennsville Burger King
Every year at Burger King, we host a Community Day, which is a time to give back to our community and thank them for supporting us. This year’s Community Day was a huge success! We offered free face painting, ice cream, balloon animals, and a raffle for stuffed animals. We’ve been hosting this special day for four years now, and it always coincides with the Memorial Day parade in Pennsville. Everyone had a great time, and we look forward to doing it again next year, and to future opportunities to connect with our local community. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event such a great success!
Take Your Child to Work Day at Summerwood!
We had a very busy and productive Take Your Child to Work Day at Summerwood this year! My son Evan loved learning about what it’s like to work at Summerwood. He shadowed me as I prepared the weekly sale entry, he helped file journal entries, and he helped Sue apply postage to a mass mailing that had to go out from the office. During lunch time, he covered the front desk to ensure that all visitors would be greeted with a smile and directed to where they needed to go. After lunch, we visited the City Line Ave Taco Bell, where the manager Bryant provided Evan with his very own team uniform to wear. Evan was able to take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the restaurant, including the taco line, back office, walk-in cooler, pizza oven, and drive through. He met a few team members and then was served his favorite Taco Bell menu item – a Quesarito.
All in all a wonderful day for Evan to learn more about Summerwood!
Our Live Mas Scholarship Recipient!
This past Thursday, when Alexis Mohammad came into work at our Hammonton Taco Bell, she had a special surprise waiting for her – she was the recipient of a Taco Bell Live Más scholarship, worth $10,000! Her family also came to join in the celebration. We are so pleased to be able to help our employees gain scholarships that will help them achieve their dreams. Congratulations, Alexis! We can’t wait to see what great things you accomplish!
A successful opening on Bustleton Ave!
We're happy to announce that yesterday we had a successful opening on Bustleton Ave in Philadelphia! We couldn’t have done it without the help and hard work of many people. Special thanks to Denise Branca and Joe DePascale along with the construction and maintenance team who battled through numerous challenges, Terry Brown-Walker and the IT team for making sure everything was running smoothly, Adrienne Mazzella for her help with passing the Board of Health Inspection, & Brian Coulter and Peter Toner for the helping us put on the final touches!
On the operations side, we have to thank Teams Franklin Mills, Red Lion & Aramingo, led by Brahima Kone, Brett Singleton & Maria Delgado for their support with training our new Team. And last but not least we have to thank the leader of Bustleton, Attice Dennis, who through all of the delays continued to motivate, coach & support her team! Awesome job by all!!
Zio's Birthday Celebration!
At Zio Gio, there is one day of the year that is more important than any other – the birthday of Zio Gio himself. “Zio Gio” means Uncle Johnny in Italian, and refers to our very own John Marsella. We are proud to serve his family’s recipes at his namesake restaurant, and it’s an honor to celebrate his birthday every year. We gave out free birthday cake, water ice, and discounted slow-roasted pork sandwiches in his honor. It was a beautiful spring day, and a wonderful time was had by all!
Taco Bell is open in Harrington!
Thank you to the entire Summerwood team for coming together to help us open another great store in Harrington, Delaware! This was the first store that we opened with a special “Training Team” from other Taco Bell stores, rather than using Above Store Leaders and Restaurant General Managers from around the company.
The New Store Opening Training Team program was developed by Omar Gracia in 2018 working with April Gammage and several Area Coaches. It will be a cornerstone for Summerwood’s development going forward. Every Trainer has been certified in all Taco Bell functions and agrees to dedicate themselves for 6 to 8 weeks in remote locations, all to make Summerwood stores successes in new towns.
The first Opening Trainers Team included Training Managers from Hammonton New Jersey (Rael Jackson and Alexis Muhammad) and Dover Delaware (Sabrina Buckner and Aaliyah Montgomery). Omar – thank you for taking on this enormous task and bringing it to life. Great job and thank you to everyone involved!
Mike Grams came to visit!
Thank you to Mike Grams, the Chief Operating Officer of Taco Bell for coming to visit us! We had a great time visiting our stores, and being inspired by his words of wisdom. He also mentioned the recent opening of our Rio Grande location in a video he made.
The State of the Union Meeting - 2019
We had another terrific State of the Union meeting at the Philadelphia Country Club! It’s a special time when our company comes together, recognizes accomplishments, and looks to our visions for the future. We also had a special informative presentation about healthy eating habits, as well as a blood pressure screening for our employees. Thank you to everyone for coming, and for helping make Summerwood a great place to be!
