Summerwood Team gives back during National Volunteer Month
We are so proud of our Summerwood team and the different ways that they give back to their communities. During National Volunteer Month, we wanted to share some of their inspiring stories. Here, Stacey M, who works for our support team, shares about her experiences. Thank you for sharing and for all you do, Stacey!
Volunteering has always been a significant part of my life, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my experience with you.
For the past 20+ years, I’ve dedicated my time to volunteering at Women’s Centers, and assisting women transforming their lives beyond domestic violence. It all started when I realized the need for support and empowerment for survivors of domestic violence in the community (a close friend had unfortunately had to deal with a horrible domestic abuse situation). I wanted to contribute in any way I could, and volunteering at various Women’s Centers seemed like the perfect fit.
From the moment I started volunteering, I was welcomed with open arms by everyone. My role varied from providing emotional support to organizing activities and workshops aimed at rebuilding confidence and self-esteem. Every interaction with the courageous women at the centers reinforced my commitment to the cause.
One particular experience stands out in my memory. I had the privilege of assisting a survivor in crafting her resume and preparing for job interviews. Witnessing her transformation from a place of vulnerability to one of resilience and determination was incredibly inspiring. I am still in touch with her – she ended up getting a terrific job and is currently thriving! It reminded me of the profound impact that simple acts of kindness and support can have on someone’s life.
Volunteering at numerous Women’s Centers has not only allowed me to make a difference in the lives of others but has also enriched my own life in ways I never imagined. It’s a humbling reminder of the power of community and the importance of standing with those who need it most. Thank you for allowing me to share.
