The Lovable Joe H

This friendly guy is Joe H, Restaurant General Manager (RGM) of our Lansdale, PA Taco Bell. He’s been with Summerwood off and on for so long that he joined when we only owned Burger Kings — which we no longer have!

It’s clear Joe has done two things exceptionally well over the years: raising a family and building a career in the quick service industry. He has experience with three household brands: Burger King, Taco Bell and Dunkin Donuts. 

Joe kicked off his career at our Royersford, PA Burger King in 1984, then left to work for another franchise. In 1987, he returned to Taco Bell (not yet owned by Summerwood). Joe also worked as a District Manager and eventually Region Coach (RC) for Dunkin Donuts for over a decade, where he helped manage eight retail outlets, three hotel gift shops, three Dunkin Donuts, a Starbucks and a bar on the Northeast Corridor rail line between Trenton, NJ and New York City, NY.

FAMILY GUY

Each time Joe has made a job change, it’s always been so that he could have more time with family. So once again, after being recruited by his former mentee at Summerwood — Nick H. — Joe returned to our company in May 2023 where he feels most at home. Nick, having been promoted to RC, is now Joe’s supervisor. Nick insists that Joe not call him “boss,” given their previous working relationship.

“Summerwood has always welcomed me warmly, even when I wasn’t working for the company … they’ve always been gracious to me,” Joe shares. He says he’s just grateful to be back!

The irony of Joe eventually returning to Summerwood to have more time with family is that his wife and four of five kids all worked for our company at some point, too. His wife, now retired, is a former “Best of the Best” RGM. Their daughter is currently employed as an RGM in Richland, PA.

MAN IN THE MIRROR

Joe says his favorite part of the job is the relationships he’s built over the years. “I’ve always spoken to people the way that I want to be spoken to. My No. 1 rule in life is that when I go home at the end of the day, I’ve got to like the guy I see in the mirror … I try to do the best I can in any situation.”

Joe is known as one of his employees’ favorite reasons for working at Taco Bell.

Joe has been an excellent role model for his team. The Lansdale restaurant crew adore him and speak highly of their manager.
